Program Description:

This presentation will acquaint the learner with evidence-based practices to support the mental health of individuals and families dealing with chronic and life-limiting illnesses. We will also explore the barriers to accessing services and how professionals can support folks in getting the care that they need to support their mental health. Lastly, we will identify and explore some of the policies that negatively impact our population and ways that we can advocate for the mental health of all individuals.

Level of Instruction:

Introductory

Learning Objectives:

  1. Develop skills to evaluate and treat older adults and families in a mental health setting as they navigate physical health issues.
  2. Understand the prevalence of mental health conditions in older adults and how symptoms may differ from younger adults.

  3. Recognize the disparities experienced by marginalized populations and the barriers to accessing care.

  4. Recognize current policy challenges and opportunities for improvement
