Description of Event:

The purpose of this course is to provide participants with foundational knowledge and understanding of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and the cognitive and behavioral treatments for this disorder. This course will cover: assessment of OCD, the use of exposure-response prevention (ERP) as a behavioral treatment for OCD, and the use of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy as a cognitive treatment for OCD. 

The course includes both didactic and experiential forms of learning. Participants can expect to work with case examples to aid in conceptualization and treatment planning of OCD. The course will be offered on one day for 6 hours of content, with 2 10-minute breaks and a 1-hour lunch break in the middle.

Learning Objectives:

Participants will be able to:

  1. Recognize the diagnostic markers of OCD

  2. Differentiate between different themes and presentations of OCD

  3. Assess for OCD in a thorough and compassionate way

  4. Describe the rationale for using exposure-response prevention (ERP) as a treatment for OCD

  5. Create individualized fear hierarchies for ERP

  6. Coach clients through ERP

  7. Explain the 6 core processes of Acceptance-Commitment Therapy and how they apply to the treatment of OCD

  8. List at least 3 different treatment considerations specific to the OCD population

About the Presenter: Bethany Kregiel, LPC, LMHCis a licensed professional counselor (LPC) in Pennsylvania and a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC) in Massachusetts. She has beentreating obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) in various settings since 2015.

She owns a small private practice, where she treats clients with OCD and eating disorders, among other issues.

This program is co-sponsored by the New Hampshire Psychological Association (NHPA) and Looking Glass Counseling. NHPA is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. NHPA maintains responsibility for this program and its content.
