Description of Event:
Assess and diagnose binge eating disorder along with exploring treatment approaches using Body Liberation. Body Liberation is a social justice approach aimed at liberating all bodies from the effects of fatphobia and discrimination.
Participants will increase their understanding of the prevalence and presentation of binge eating disorder in their clinical practice. They will learn to assess for and notice symptoms of the disorder and have skills and understanding to begin to treat the condition using a Body Liberation approach. Participants will be called on to consider impact of identity, marginalization, and social justice in their assessment and treatment of binge eating disorder in their clinical work. Relevant resources will be shared for ongoing support for participants to continue to learn more after the training.

1. Identify, assess, and diagnose binge eating disorder
2. Define and conceptualize body liberation
3. Define difference between traditional approach to binge eating disorder treatment and using body liberation approach
4. Identify resources available for the treatment of binge eating disorder
Presenter: Alice Mathews, LICSW
Alice Mathews (she/her) is a licensed independent clinical social worker working as a therapist and clinical supervisor at Looking Glass Counseling.
Alice has worked in partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient programs and outpatient levels of care. She trained at the Renfrew Center of Massachusetts and has experience in the assessment and treatment of eating disorders, with a special interest in Binge Eating Disorder. She uses a Health at Every Size (HAES)Ⓡ and Body Liberation approach.
