Description:
Join a monthly consult group with other trans affirming practitioners who share anti oppressive values in the pursuit of gender liberation. This is an intermediate to advanced professional development space for mental health service providers of all genders, who work with Two Spirit, Trans, & Nonbinary adults. Facilitated by a genderqueer, trans competent, & certified Body Trust provider with extensive experience and training, combined with excitement for this work. This intentional space will further expand your trans competence with integrity, humility, and accountability. Monthly gatherings include psychoeducation, reflection, resources, clinical examples, and open discussion related to advanced topics within trans-affirming work. Topics include but are not limited to: psychological considerations when supporting physical & medical affirmation, nuances of the mind-body connection for those with gender dysphoria, and the benefits of self-compassion & shame resilience for supporting the radical healing of trans folks.
Learning Objectives:
1. Describe the potential benefits of self-compassion and apply self-compassion practices with trans/nonbinary clients.
2. Discuss the potential benefits of shame resilience as an intervention for self- critical judgment and low self-worth related to internalized trans-negativity and experiences of anti-trans oppression.
3. Describe specific examples of how to support those navigating systemic oppression, microaggressions, & the anti-trans sociopolitical climate.
4. Identify key psychological considerations for supporting a trans/nonbinary client who is engaging in medical affirmation (such as gender affirming hormones, surgery, etc).
5. Identify alternatives and body liberation-centered approaches for those who struggle with body image and physical embodiment due to dysphoria.
6. Describe trans liberation and apply gender-affirming care through a lens of trans liberation.
7. Describe radical healing and apply gender-affirming care through a lens of radical healing.
8. Identify at least 2 ways in which the program enhanced and/or expanded their comfort and/or sense of competence in supporting their trans & nonbinary clients.
