Program Description:
During this presentation followed by Q&A discussion, Dr. Barnett will describe various psychedelic compounds, their known mechanisms of action, and various subjective effects. He will review the past and current literature on the potential therapeutic benefits, as well as the risks, of psychedelic medicines on a variety of clinical conditions. Finally, he will discuss “trends and issues” in the broader psychedelic medicine field with a look at future directions. Discussion may also include psychedelic experiences outside of Western medical and research models, such as personal use, indigenous traditions, and religious use.

1. List the names and differential subjective and physiological effects of at least four psychedelic substances.
2. Explain the basic pharmacological action of at least 3 psychedelic medicines.
3. Compare the potential risks and benefits of psychedelic experiences.
4. Describe at least 4 clinical conditions shown to be improved by at least two psychedelic compounds.
About the Presenter:
Rick Barnett, PsyD, MSCP is a licensed clinical psychologist, licensed alcohol and drug counselor with an MS in Clinical Psychopharmacology. He runs a private group practice focusing on adults, older adults, and state-mandated patients for alcohol use and other drug use disorders. He has served as President of APA Society for Prescribing Psychology (Division 55, 2020), President of the VT Psychological Association (2011-2014) and current Chair of the Legislative Committee working on Prescriptive Authority and psilocybin decriminalization in Vermont. He co-founded the Psychedelic Society of Vermont in 2021 after completing a yearlong training in psychedelic psychotherapy and research through the California Institute for Integral Studies (CIIS), and is the Founder and CEO of CARTER, Inc, a 501c3 nonprofit dedicated to the art and science of achieving lifelong freedom from addictive disorders. Rick loves the outdoors, is in long-term recovery from addiction, and enjoys being curious and connecting with others.

Paying with a check:
Checks must be received within one week of the event. If payment has not been received, registrant will still have option to pay online with a credit card up until the day before the program. If an invoice remains open on the day of the event, the registrant will not be allowed to attend.
Cancellation policy:
Refunds, minus a 10% cancellation fee, will be issued for all cancellations received two weeks prior to the start of the course. No refunds or vouchers will be made thereafter. No-shows are not refunded.
Attendance policy:
Full attendance is required to obtain CEs per NHPA policy. No partial credit will be given. Those who attend the workshop and complete the evaluation form will receive 3 continuing education credits. Please note that APA CE rules require that we only give credit to those who attend the entire workshop. Those arriving after the scheduled start time or leaving before the workshop is completed will not receive CE credits.
Registrations are Transferable:
Registrants can transfer an event confirmation to another individual. The NHPA office must be notified of the transfer at least 24 hours prior to the event.
