Program Description:
"Mind or Body? Health Anxiety and Somatic Symptom Disorders" is a didactic format presentation about the intersection between emotional and physical health disorders, and in particular how anxiety and somatic symptoms can be both co-occurring and mutually reinforcing. We will examine specific diagnoses related to this area as well as overview treatment recommendations.

1. Describe the diagnostic differences across health anxiety and somatic symptom disorders.
2. Identify at least 3 etiologic causes for health anxiety and somatic symptom disorders.
3. Discuss best practices for mental health professionals treating patients with physical symptoms, including interfacing with their medical providers.
About the Presenter:
Alexander Brown, Ph.D. (he/him) is a licensed psychologist, faculty member, and associate program director of the NH Dartmouth Family Medicine Residency program in Concord where he trains resident physicians in behavioral sciences and population health. He works clinically at the Concord Hospital Family Health Center as an integrated behavioral health clinician and supervises students in this setting. His clinical focus is health psychology and behavioral medicine, including behavioral interventions for chronic health conditions as well as the psychophysiological effects of anxiety and depression.
Dr. Brown received his doctorate in Counseling Psychology and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Primary Care Behavioral Health jointly at the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial VAMC in Bedford, MA, and University of Massachusetts Dept. of Family Medicine. Prior to this position, Dr. Brown was an integrated primary care psychologist at Cambridge Health Alliance/Harvard Medical School and Tufts Family Medicine Residency.

Paying with a check:
Checks must be received within one week of the event. If payment has not been received, registrant will still have option to pay online with a credit card up until the day before the program. If an invoice remains open on the day of the event, the registrant will not be allowed to attend.
Cancellation policy:
Refunds, minus a 10% cancellation fee, will be issued for all cancellations received two weeks prior to the start of the course. No refunds or vouchers will be made thereafter. No-shows are not refunded.
Attendance policy:
Full attendance is required to obtain CEs per NHPA policy. No partial credit will be given. Those who attend the workshop and complete the evaluation form will receive 1 continuing education credit. Please note that APA CE rules require that we only give credit to those who attend the entire workshop. Those arriving after the scheduled start time or leaving before the workshop is completed will not receive CE credits.
Registrations are Transferable:
Registrants can transfer an event confirmation to another individual. The NHPA office must be notified of the transfer at least 24 hours prior to the event.
