After months of planning, NHPA’s 2018 May Addictions Symposium kicked off on the 3rd at the Ashworth By The Sea. We had three days of informative and engaging presentations with speakers Dr. Elaine Ducharme, Dr. Jennifer Schneider, and Dr. Lance Dodes.
We saw old friends and lots of new faces in the crowd. It was a lively group! It was also the first symposium for NHPA’s new Executive Director, Jena Mottola. She had an opportunity to meet members and participate in the annual meeting held on Friday, May 4th.
NHPA’s Annual Awards dinner was a fun, festive, and celebratory evening. Eric Spofford, the founder of Granite Recovery Centers, was the keynote speaker. He shared his story of addiction, recovery, and his unwavering commitment to providing comprehensive addiction treatment. Those in attendance were moved by his honesty and appreciated his perspective on the origin of addiction and what he believes would be helpful in managing the crisis.
Equality Health Center of Concord received the 2018 Distinguished Contribution Award. We were fortunate to have several people from EHC at the dinner including Executive Director, Dalia Vidunas, and Dr. Paul Cody, EHC’s Behavioral Health specialist. EHC stands by and delivers on its mission to “advance health by empowering our clients and communities through advocacy, education, outreach, and the provision of quality, non-judgmental healthcare with expertise in sexual, reproductive, and gender-affirming services.”
Dr. John Burns was honored with the 2018 Margaret Riggs Distinguished Contribution award in recognition of his years of extraordinary service. It was no surprise to many in the room that John would deliver a spirited acceptance speech.
Countless volunteer hours and an inability to say “no” were just part of the reason for Dr. Jacki Reinert being named the 2018 Member Of The Year award. We can’t thank her enough for her many contributions. Jacki will begin her term as an At-Large Board Member on July 1st.
Many thanks to all of the generous sponsors: The Trust, Exeter Hospital, The Center For Behavioral Health Professions at Rivier University, Serenity At Summit, Gatehouse Treatment, Granite Recovery Centers, and Aware Recovery Care.
