Program Description: This event will be the fourth annual diversity conference of the Rivier University Psy.D. program in Counseling and School Psychology in partnership with the New Hampshire Psychological Association. The event will focus on the topic of human trafficking, with speakers to include Donna Plourde the Executive Director at Real Life Giving, a non-profit committed to fighting sex trafficking and exploitation through education and training, and to supporting survivors and at-risk women. Janet Carroll, an Emergency Department Registered Nurse who is currently the Nurse Manager of the Forensic Nursing Program at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and a NH Statewide SANE Program Director through the NH Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence, as well as Jasmine Fiandaca a survivor of sex trafficking who has dedicated her life to survivors and who is the author of “The Diary of Jasmine Grace. Trafficked. Recovered. Redeemed.”

At the conclusion of the program, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify the definition and underlying dynamics of human trafficking, including what makes people/youth vulnerable to trafficking and the recruitment and control tactics used.
  2. Discuss physical and psychological clues that a patient displays indicating that they may be a trafficking victim, and identify best practices for responding and reporting.
  3. Describe what it takes to recover from drug addiction and sex trafficking and how to best support victims so they can become survivors.
  4. Identify three ways that healthcare providers can support victims of human trafficking who seek care in a clinical setting.
  5. List three reasons or barriers patients may decline help or leave their situation.
