In just a few days we will be saying “Happy New Year!” What? The weather outside does not suggest that it is time to pop champagne. That’s because July 1st is a different kind of New Year. It’s the beginning of the new Membership Year. It’s a bittersweet time for NHPA. While we are excited to welcome our new board members, we’ll also be saying some goodbyes.
Jes Leonard, Ph.D. and Jacquelyn Reinert, Psy.D. are joining the 2018-2019 Board of Directors in At-Large positions. We are fortunate that they will be sitting on the board for the next two years.
In May, the NHPA membership voted to include the Chair of the Behavioral Healthcare Advocacy Committee (BHAC) to the Board of Directors. This committee works tirelessly on matters vital to the practice of professional psychology in the state. Julie Wolter, Psy.D. will be the first BHAC chair to hold this board position.
You can read more about Jes, Jacki, and Julie on our Board of Directors page.
We say farewell and thank you to Jeannine Pablo, Psy.D. who briefly stepped into an At-Large position when there was a sudden vacancy. Also leaving is Paul Frehner, Psy.D. Paul was a two-year At-Large board member. While he will no longer be on the board, NHPA is fortunate that he will remain an active member of the BHAC committee.
Anne Hotchkiss, Ph.D., and Maura Sullivan, Psy.D. are leaving us too. Anne was a dedicated At-Large board member as well as the Chair of the Human Resources committee (where she will remain as a member). And because that wasn’t enough, she also worked on the membership committee. Like Anne, Maura wore a few hats at NHPA. She held the challenging position of NHPA Treasurer. For two years she aided the association with the task of devising a budget. That’s a role that demands patience and Maura had plenty. She also contributed her time and energy as the Chair of the Women, Minorities, and Diverse Communities Committee. Thank you, Anne and Maura!
After many years of sitting on the NHPA Board of Directors, Craig Stenslie, Ph.D. is stepping away. Craig served in just about every position possible, most recently as the Past President. Thank you, Craig, for all that you have done to further the mission of NHPA. You will be missed!
Remaining on the Board, but moving into new positions are Celia Oliver, Ph.D., Psy.D., Cynthia Whitaker, Psy.D., MLADC, Kathleen Albert, Ph.D., and M. Chase Levesque, Psy.D. On July 1st Celia will become NHPA’s President and remain as the Chair of the Ethics Committee. Cynthia leaves her At-Large seat to become the President-Elect. And Kathleen, a current At-Large member, steps into the Treasurer position. Chase steps down as President, but will stay on for another year as the Past President. Completing the Executive Committee is Sue Kim, Ph.D. This will be Sue’s third year as NHPA’s Secretary.
Happy New Year NHPA members! Your continued support is what keeps this organization going. We couldn’t do it without you. If you are reading this and you aren’t a member…..join the party! Here’s how.
