Our 10th annual Academic Convention was held on Saturday, April 7th at Granite State College in Concord. NHPA organizes this event for undergraduate psychology students at NH colleges and universities, including Keene State, Granite State, Plymouth State, UNH, and Franklin Pierce, so they can present their research at a poster session, ask questions of a panel of psychology graduate students, and listen to practicing psychologists speak on topics like neuropsychology, gerontology, opioid abuse, and counseling veteran populations. Also, each college sends a team of four students to compete in a psychology trivia game show, with the winners gaining the right to hold the golden PsyCup trophy at their school for the year. This year’s winners were the team from Franklin Pierce University! NHPA is proud to hold this annual convention in order to encourage psychology undergrads to consider future careers in the field. Dr. Karen Couture, Chair of NHPA’s Research Division, has done an extraordinary job for the past 10 years making sure this event is amazing. And this year, Dr. Emlee Kohler at the host college (GSC), along with her staff and faculty, helped make this convention extra special.
If you are an NHPA member interested in helping with next year’s convention in April, please contact the NHPA office for more information. Remember when you were a naive undergrad and really could have used a helpful mentor or some good advice from a practicing psychologist? Consider volunteering at this event – it’s a lot of fun!
